“For I know the plans I have for ,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
God is the greatest director!
Eight years ago, I questioned my purpose in life. I left my career behind and ventured to England, a land of many opportunities . After six months of unemployment, I grew tired of waiting for a teaching job to just pop up. “Luckily”, at the time, my best friend lived half hour away from me. Looking back, it was not luck, but part of the director’s plan. Shan and I decided that we were going to just take “any” job and with her by my side I dived in!
I remember our first shift like it was yesterday. It was approximately ten am when Shan spotted me in the hallway, I was pushing a wheelchair at the time. Shan looked at me and she bursted into laughter. I knew her thoughts. Best friends have a secret language, yes, you know what I’m talking about. At the time, I think she was saying, ” I cannot believe she is actually pushing a wheelchair.” At that age, I was full of pride and well full of myself. I looked down at my uniform and couldn’t believe it was me! Can I say this.
The Lord hates these seven things: eyes that show pride, tongues that tell lies, hands that kill innocent people, Proverbs 6:16-17
Back to the story 🙂
Our patience, courage and faith were tested one particular night. A patient “decided” that she was going to die. Yes, that was how I looked at it then. The sinner in me could not understand why this lady could not have waited until the morning shift. The nurse requested that we make her presentable and we were to ensure that her dentures were put back in. I could not believe what I was hearing! Was this lady ever going to eat again?
Shan and I stood over her body negotiating who should be doing what. In the end, we divided the task. Shan had the job of opening her mouth, while I pushed her dentures in. We did not even wait to find out if they were inserted correctly, we flew out of the room in fear! It was our first experience with the dead. At the time, I questioned the purpose of this job, each week I told my husband I’ll be leaving the following week. I just wanted a job! I didn’t ask for all of this. Today, it all makes sense 🙂
God – The Man Behind The Scenes!
“Trust in the lord with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him and he shall direct your path”. Proverbs 3:5-6
Eight years ago, God knew that his will for Shan was to be a nurse and I will be a social worker. This might then lead onto something else, but for now this is the holy hustle that brings us great joy. On the neonatal unit, Shan guards the premature babies, she cares for those who are coming into the world. Interestingly, I work with people in their final stages, the exit. We are God’s gate keepers.
Have you ever planned a surprise baby shower or an engagement party? You have made all these plans, dropped all these hints and you are just praying that your partner or friend gets where you want them to be. God is busy making the preparations for us. He makes all these plans, drops all these hints and he is patiently waiting for us to follow his steps, so we can get to the beautiful ending. We may have to jump a few hurdles, but it’s all part of God’s plan.
Have you ever made a plan, but something gets in the way? That might be a good thing too, it’s probably not God’s plan for you. However, most times it’s the plan of the enemy. The devil plants worry, fear and excuses in our heads. As soon as we make a decision, he sends a “friend” to highlight your weaknesses instead of your strengths. He wants you to become so depressed, that you curse God. I am speaking from experience here. This is what the devil does!
Tonight, get onto your knees and let God in! Ask him to reveal his will for you. Ask him to remove all the obstacles in your way, so your path will be crystal clear. Every night, pray into your situation until you get where you ought to be.
Do you want a new career?
Do you want to go back to college?
Do you want to start or extend your family?
Do you feel stuck?
Let the man behind the scenes direct your path. When he shows you his will, step out of your comfort zone and hold onto his word, this will give you the faith you need. Tonight, I wholeheartedly pray that our almighty God give you and I the desires of your heart and make all our plans succeed. Psalm 20:4.
If we believe in him, tonight, we WILL sleep 🙂
